The nursing home I worked at gave us free training, and they even paid us for the time we spent training. This was in New York State, I don't know how California works their CNA certification program. But why don't you check to see if you can get free training from one of the nursing homes or hospitals you may want to work at? It really isn't a very desirable job (for obvious reasons) and in my experience the pay is pretty low....so a lot of nursing homes try to "entice" new employees by offering a paid training course.
