I took a 3 week nursing assistant class through the Red Cross this summer, they crammed so much into us that we were all ready to quit! It takes years to become a nurse, how in the world do these 3 week courses expect us to learn all of that, plus no one will hire us without any "experience"…….so I think I wasted my $850.00……

Yes, you wasted your $850.00. I can't believe they charged that much for a program.

Nursing Assistants are NOT nurses nor can they legally call themselves a nurse, and in some states you can be legally prosecuted for doing so.

Nursing Assistant jobs are probably the lowest paid in the hospital and pretty much do the bathing/bedpan routine.

If you already are Licensed, Certified, Registered or State Approved in your own State and want to move to another state, you will need to request reciprocity. This means that you are asking the new state to recognize the approval you received from your home state. Contact the State registry in your home state and request a “Application for Enrollment By Reciprocity”. Ask them if you should send the completed form to them or to the state to which you are moving. The contact information for the state registry can be found at www.4cnas.com

im going to be working on a medsurge telemetry cardic floor. i don't really know what that means but i am starting tomorrow with now previous experiance as a nursing assistant. they plan to train me on the floor.

You will do all the basic roles of a nursing assistant- helping patients with all their ADLs and vital signs, if anyone is on I & O record it, possibly charting depending on the facility. I have worked on a cardiac stepdown unit myself, and one thing that aides do is help patients with their stepdown program. Depending on what step the patient was on in the program, you would take their vital signs and then they would walk a certain distance in the hallway. Then you would take their vital signs afterwards. Over time the distance would be increased. As far as telemetry is concerned, you have to make sure the telemetry unit is unclipped from the wiring, while you are bathing someone so the unit does not get wet. Make sure you also tell the nurse who is also taking care of the patient that you are doing this.
They will orient you to where everything is, what they expect. The most important thing is don't be nervous, and if you have any questions ask the charge nurse, or if it's about a certain patient, the nurse that is overseeing their care.
I started off being an EMT and CNA myself and learned a lot floating around a hospital, and also on the type of unit you will be working in.

I want to bring my Mom home from the Nursing Home & take care of her myself. I can do a lot since I took care of her before, but now she needs more care. Also, in CA can I get paid for taking care of her at home since I would have to quit my job?

I don’t know if you need to become a CNA to qualify for payment to take care of your mother. That said, you can go to a community college to take classes, or check with your local red cross to see if they will train you. You can train at a nursing home (depending on their policies), but you’ll have to agree to work for them for a period of time, which doesn’t seem to work into your schedule. Good luck taking care of your mother, Check here for California’s nursing boards - usually they control CNAs as well.. https://www.ncsbn.org/515.htm#California%20-%20RN

I am 15 years old, is this old enough? An how much does it usually cost?
I will choose the beest answer

I actually started out as a nursing Aide, before I got my Nursing Licenses.
It may depend on where you live I live in Kentucky.
You had to be 18 to be certified and didn't have to have High School Diploma or GED. Although, it is better to, if you plan on going further in the Nursing career.
Some places will pay for you to get certified, you just have to work for them for so long. If you can't find one that will pay for it, it's not cheap. Probably from 500-100 dollars.Look for an Extendicare Nursing Facility. They will pay for ALL your classes, books everything!
Being 15, you probably couldn't get a CNA job yet, you have to be at least 16.

i just finished my cna course and i`m currently job hunting. i heard that you get paid more when you work an evening shift, is that true? what`s the most a cna can make?

At a lot of companies, when you work a shift other than 7-3 etc. you get a pay increase, but i think that depends on the company. At my b/f's job each sequential shift gets paid .50 more than the preceding one.

It depends on where you work and what kind of work you do. A travelling nurse (which can be a CNA) and working in a hospital–you get paid a lot more than working in a nursing home. It also depends on the company and the city and state. Here in GA travelling get paid around 11-13, hospital 11-13 (especially if you work PRN status, fancy word for part-time), and nursing home 8-9.

But, you should definitely check out the occupational outlook handbook and you can check out this stuff by the career.

…just asking because I'm interested in Nursing Assistant Program, but I'm not sure if I'll be brave enough to do that alone…
…I think I'm not that afraid of a dead person, but more of the scene of not seeing a dead person, but knowing that a person is covered inside a shroud…

When my uncle died his wife helped carry the body and dress it all by herself and nurse played a small role as well
