Yes, medical assistants can work in nursing homes. You can give personal one on one care and use alot of your other skills for other duties within a nursing home. I had a job at a nursing home one time and I did pt care as well as front office duties when needed. I was good for many different areas of work. My boss was ecstatic to get a medical asst with so much diverse knowledge. I might add I was paid a very nice wage for it also. Being a medical asst has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. You can’t go wrong going into this field. Good luck to you! Go for it!

cna’s don’t make much money. if i were you i would become a medical assistant and get a job in an office or hospital. to become a caregiver you don’t necessarily have to be a cna. if your smart and can get financial aid or student loan i would suggest taking up nursing. since you want to be a caregiver. nuring is good pay cna is not. i know i used to be a cna. went back to college now i am a medical secretary. you can contact your local nursing homes or hospitals and sometimes they’ll pay for your cna schooling or even to be a nurse. good luck

You need to contact the Nursing Home Oversight Entity in your State. Normally a medical assistant can certainly work in a nursing home but I am aware in 2 states it is required that you are a CNA.

Maria F, I put my dad in a nursing home last year. It was a painful decision, but I found lots of advice and resources online. http://www.elderfostercare.com
