Maria F, I put my dad in a nursing home last year. It was a painful decision, but I found lots of advice and resources online. http://www.elderfostercare.com
References :
You need to contact the Nursing Home Oversight Entity in your State. Normally a medical assistant can certainly work in a nursing home but I am aware in 2 states it is required that you are a CNA.
References :
26 years in medical profession

cna's don't make much money. if i were you i would become a medical assistant and get a job in an office or hospital. to become a caregiver you don't necessarily have to be a cna. if your smart and can get financial aid or student loan i would suggest taking up nursing. since you want to be a caregiver. nuring is good pay cna is not. i know i used to be a cna. went back to college now i am a medical secretary. you can contact your local nursing homes or hospitals and sometimes they'll pay for your cna schooling or even to be a nurse. good luck
References :
Yes, medical assistants can work in nursing homes. You can give personal one on one care and use alot of your other skills for other duties within a nursing home. I had a job at a nursing home one time and I did pt care as well as front office duties when needed. I was good for many different areas of work. My boss was ecstatic to get a medical asst with so much diverse knowledge. I might add I was paid a very nice wage for it also. Being a medical asst has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. You can't go wrong going into this field. Good luck to you! Go for it!
References :
Registered Medical Asst 15+ yrs..
