You can attend a community college for a medical assistant certificate and pay far less than what you were being asked for assuming that you are paying resident fees.

Never go to those fee career colleges–you will NEVER be able to pay that pack at the MA salary of $9-13/hour. Furthermore, the job is extremely impacted in areas and many MAs CANNOT get jobs (just look through the YA section!). Try for a LVN or RN instead if at all possible.
