The classes take about 2-6 weeks, depending on where you take the training.
As you go through the CNA training, you'll get quite a bit of instruction in the classroom. Usually this includes nutrition, basic skills for nursing, infection control, as well as some anatomy and physiology. You'll also have the opportunity to get experience, with many clinical activities that will take place during your training days.
Once you have finished up the CNA training, then you will need to pass the state test. While there are some places that will allow you to work for a bit without getting the certification, you'll ultimately need to have it. You'll have to take an exam, which requires a clinical test as well as a writing test. During the clinical portion of your test, your skills will need to be demonstrated. If you pass the test, then you'll get your certification as a CNA.
